WHAT do we mean by professional?

Our definition of professional is as defined by the Canada Council for the Arts: someone who has some training, experience or accomplishments in theatre (past training could include mentorship, self-study, workshops, etc. Training in an academic institution is not mandatory), and is committed to working full-time at your practice when financially possible.

WHAT do we mean by latinx?

If you're not sure whether you're Latinx, perhaps you can answer these questions for yourself before adding yourself to the database:

  1. Am I or is my heritage from Latin America? (We are aware that “Latin America” is a problematic, colonial term; when we say Latinx, we include those who identify as Afro-Latinx and who reject the term Latin America but identify as indigenous from the region that is referred to as “Latin America”).

  2. If so, who claims me (for example: “Ecuador”, “Puerto Rico”, “the Chicano community from East L.A.”, “the Aymara People”, “the Afro communities of Colombia”, "the Nuyorican community of the Bronx", etc.)?

  3. What box do I check off on the census form?

  4. When did I start identifying as Latinx and why?

  5. What is my lived experience as Latinx?

  6. What are my connections to being raised in Latinx household and/or Latinx community?
